Celebrity River Cruises Expands the Journey With New Pre- and Post-Cruise City Stays
Celebrity River Cruises is leaning into a bigger idea for European river travel: the sailing is no longer the whole trip. In a new advisor-facing announcement dated June 30, 2026, the brand introduced pre- and post-cruise packages designed to turn a Danube or Rhine itinerary into a longer, more immersive city experience.
The new packages are built around a simple promise. Instead of treating embarkation and disembarkation cities as quick transfer points, Celebrity is positioning them as part of the vacation itself. The offer pairs river sailings with extended stays in four marquee European destinations: Prague, Budapest, Amsterdam, and Lausanne.
That matters because river cruising already attracts travelers who want culture, walkable cities, and a strong sense of place. Celebrity’s new approach pushes further in that direction. The company is framing these extensions around local storytelling, neighborhood character, and deeper destination access rather than generic hotel add-ons. In its campaign language, the emphasis is on authentic encounters, from thermal-bath mornings in Budapest to canal-side discovery in Amsterdam and lake views in Lausanne.
Two featured itineraries anchor the rollout: a 7-night Danube sailing between Budapest and Vienna, and a 7-night Rhine sailing between Basel and Amsterdam. With the new packages, those cruises become more flexible and easier to sell as full European journeys rather than single-segment escapes.
For travelers, the appeal is obvious. Adding time before or after a cruise can soften the pace of the trip, reduce the feeling of rushing through major gateways, and create space for experiences a port call alone cannot deliver. For advisors, it creates a stronger story to sell: not just a river cruise, but a layered European vacation that blends sailing with meaningful city stays.
Celebrity is also tapping into a broader trend in premium travel. More clients want trips that feel personalized, unhurried, and experience-rich. Pre- and post-cruise extensions answer that demand while giving travelers more reasons to linger in some of Europe’s most iconic urban settings.
If this rollout performs well, it could become an important differentiator in the fast-growing river cruise category. The ship may still be the centerpiece, but Celebrity is making a clear bet that the cities at either end of the voyage can be just as memorable.
